Early Communication Coaching for Parents
Giving parents the tools to help their child's communication grow.
What I offer:
I provide in-home or virtual individualized parent coaching to help you feel confident supporting your child’s speech, language, and communication development at home. This service is primarily for parents of young children that are ages 1-3 years old. We’ll talk about your child’s communication, your concerns, and the best ways to support early language development. Together, we’ll identify practical strategies that fit naturally into your family’s routines and interactions. You’ll leave with personalized strategies, activities, and take-home resources you can use with your child right away.
Who is this for?
This service is for parents and caregivers of young children, generally ages 1–3 (ish), who have questions or concerns about their child’s early communication and language development.
It may be a good fit if your child:
Isn’t talking as much as other children their age
Has said only a few words, or isn’t using words yet
Doesn’t often imitate sounds, words, or actions
Doesn’t seem very interested in interacting or communicating with you
Has difficulty engaging in back-and-forth play
Seems more interested in playing independently than interacting with others
You’re simply not sure what to think about your child’s early communication development
You don't have to know whether your child has a delay to seek consultation. If you're wondering whether your child's communication is developing as expected, we can talk about what you're seeing and what you can do to support their development at home.
What exactly should I expect?
I want this consultation to feel practical and useful. You will walk away with a customized communication plan for your child.
If we meet in person, I’ll come to your home, where I can observe your child in their natural environment, listen to your concerns, and get a sense of how they currently communicate and play.
Together, we might talk about:
Choosing toys that encourage communication and development, including making the most of the toys you already have
How to use toys intentionally to create opportunities for communication, rather than simply adding more toys to the playroom
Different types of play, including independent play, parallel play, interactive play, and pretend play
Specific language facilitation strategies- practical things you can do during everyday interactions to encourage your child to understand and use more language.
How to incorporate communication strategies into play, so you're supporting language development while still having fun
How to build language opportunities into everyday routines, like mealtimes, bath time, getting dressed, errands, and bedtime
Following your child's interests and using what they already love to create meaningful opportunities for communication
This can be a lot to remember! So I will provide you with written activity handouts, resources, and language facilitation strategy information.
The goal isn't to turn you into your child's therapist. It's to help you feel confident knowing how to support your child's communication development during the things you're already doing together every day.
These same services are offered virtually, depending on your location and preference.
My mission is to help parents feel confident supporting their child's communication development
About Me:
Hi, I’m Kira! I’m a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) with a passion for helping young children develop the skills they need to communicate, connect, and participate in everyday life.
Throughout my career, I’ve worked with young children and their families to support speech, language, social communication, and early communication development. I especially love working with parents because you know your child better than anyone, and the little things you do throughout the day can create so many opportunities for communication development.
My goal is to give families access to personalized, practical guidance without the commitment of ongoing therapy. My goal is to help you better understand your child's communication, feel confident knowing what to do, and walk away with strategies that actually fit into your everyday life.
I’m currently based in Central Vermont, where I enjoy exploring all that the area has to offer. Outside of my work as an SLP, I love spending time outdoors, especially swimming, camping, and exploring new places.
Practical tools. Confident parents. Growing communicators.
Supporting communication can be easier than you think.
Small changes to the way you interact with your child can create big opportunities for communication.
Imitation comes before conversation
Before children can participate in back-and-forth conversations, they often learn through watching and copying the people around them. Encouraging imitation of actions, sounds, gestures, and eventually words can help build the foundation for communication.
You don’t have to wait and see
You don't need to wait until a child is older to start supporting communication. If you're noticing that something feels different or you're simply wondering whether your child's development is on track, it's okay to ask questions early.
